Disney's Tangled

My daughter and I went to see this movie on the long holiday weekend and what can I say, Disney scored another hit. We loved it from beginning to end.

The story line in typical fairytale fashion, King and queen are going to have a baby, mother is losing baby and they need a magical flower to help heal her, problem is, the only one left in the kingdom is being hidden by an old crone who use it's powers to keep her young. The kings  knights find it and take the flower to heal the mother and a beautiful baby is born. Everyone is happy till the old crone seeks her revenge.

Based on the fairytale Rapunzel and starring  Mandy Moore as the lead role,  Zachary Levi (of Chuck fame) as Zachary Rider and Donna Murphy who plays the evil crone with relish.

While watching this movie all I could think is how far animation has come. It is breathtaking in this movie. I like the score and the story, but the animation truly is the star. I highly recommend this movie for a family night at the movies. Trust me, you will not be sorry.

Carmex Review and Giveaway

I was recently asked by Carmex to review their Moisture Plus lip balm. The day it arrived I was eager to get started. It has been cold in Oregon and my lips were feeling the weather.

I tried the peach the first day and although the color was a little bright for my personal taste, I loved the way they made my lips feel. Almost instant relief, The next day I tried the pink, that color suited my complexion better and again, after application, my lips felt soft and moisturized.

After 3 days my lips were healing, a week they were soft and healed from my winter chapness. (Is that a word? Well it is now ;) ) I truly love this product. I have been buying their tins of lip balm, but now I can also wear the same soothing ingredients as a lip gloss. Try it for yourself and see....OR

Bisquick Gluten Free review and giveaway

As some of you know, my daughter suffers from lupus. We have been trying to cut down on her gluten intake to help with her flares. So when Bisquick offered me  to let me  review Bisquick Gluten Free baking mix I jumped at the chance.

I was sent this package.

It contained The Bisquick Gluten Free mix, a griddle with silver dollar sized pancake molds, a handy squeeze bottle to pour the mix into that allows you to write if you want to and a pancake sized spatula.
Sunday night I decided to make breakfast for dinner, one of my families favorite meals. My daughter and I had decided before hand not to tell my husband that the mix was gluten free to get his honest reaction.

I followed the directions on the box for the pancake batter, It may be a little thicker then  your use to and I worried about that too, but as you'll soon learn It didn't matter. I heated the pan (after cleaning it and seasoning it) sprayed it with oil and started making silver dollar pancakes. I must admit the pan is a bit awkward to use and when my husband came into the kitchen he said he hoped I was making HIM bigger pancakes, So after my initial silver dollar pancakes, I switched to my own griddle and made MAN size pancakes. (if only my MAN SIZED man would do dishes). I kept them warm in my warmer as I prepared the rest of the meal.
On first bite I was amazed how light they were. I have used the regular Bisquick mix for pancakes before and always found them a bit heavy, but these were light and tasty and I really like them. My daughter loved them too. Now for the big test, my husband, the ultimate pancake lover. My daughter and I watched intently as he downed them as fast as he could get them Then after he was finished we sprung the news that they were gluten free and he said he could not tell the difference and that he thought they were delicious. One thing we all noticed after eating, is that they didn't leave you with that bloated feeling.

My entire family gives this product a big thumbs up!

Now for the good news. How would you like to win everything that was sent to me? All you have to do is comment on what your favorite breakfast food is. Make sure you leave your email  in your comment so I can reach you if you win. U.S. and Canada only please, I will choose the winner using random.org. This contest will close on Oct 27th at 10 pm. Good luck everyone!

just a thought

Is it just me, but i hate it when gossip rags & entertainment shows call people on reality shows, or people who became famous because of a sex tape, stars. They're not stars. The actors on movies, who have the ability to take us on a journey through their acting, or the actors who star in SCRIPTED television show are stars. Those other people are like satellites who rotate around a star, hoping to be them, live like them, get attention like REAL stars, but sorry, your still a satellite, but kinda grimy & dirty. So from now on i suggest we call them slagalites. Just an idea...

You know that song

Those songs, the ones that get stuck in your head. You hear them on commercials or on a tv show, some times during sporting events. You start liking them & if your like me, you catch some lyrics and google them to see if you can find the song & the artist that performs it. After that you might then start trying to find the artist work & it introduces you to new music that otherwise you might have missed out on.

It is a great marketing tool now that you can't find a real music channel anywhere on tv. Even MTV has finally given up on the facade and is taking music television off their logo. A way to get your music out to a mass audience you might otherwise not have found. Even i never listen to music on the radio anymore, now that I own a mp3 player that holds more music than i could ever listen to. If my radio is on it's sports talk, or sports themselves.

Below is a small list of songs you might have heard a million times & still have no idea who sings it. If you don't, go over to amazon and see if you recognize any of them & maybe have 1 or 2 of them stuck in your head all day.

Breathe Me-Sia

Somewhere Only We Know-Keane

Always On Sunday-Tammany Hall

Running Up That Hill-Placebo

New Soul-Yael Naim

Shine On-The Kooks

List Of Demands-Saul Williams

Je Ne Te Connispas-Prototypes

Broken-Lifehouse

Funeral-Broken Horses

Shelter-Ray Lamontagne

Mad World-Gary Jules

Electric Worry-Clutch

Ali In The Jungle-The Hours

So are You ready for the Superbowl?

Yes it's that time again. 2 teams battling it out on the field. Commercials paying the big bucks to advertise.(it really is the only time i watch them cuz you know, they're funny) Making all those snacks & still ordering pizza. Side bets throughout the game. It's almost like a national holiday. ( i have the same food hangover)

Time was when my favorite team use to at least contend for it, but that seems many years ago & i am getting old, so maybe my memories fading. This year I'll be rooting for the Saints. They are my second favorite team, one who you almost can't help but root for. The half time show is The Who, brilliant for us aging baby boomers ( talking about my generation)

So cook up, fan up, money up & I'll meet you there. GO SAINTS

trying to catch up

Now that the xmas season is over it's time for me to catch up a bit on my blogging. As you know i am a lover of movies, books and sports. Today i have a few recommendations of a few movies you may not of heard of.

The 1st is a Swedish movie entitled Let the right on in, it is a story that even if your not sure you like it, i guarantee it will stay with you awhile. It is a haunting story of a young boy who is a loner and bullied at school, that all changes when a new mysterious girl moves next door. the cinematography is quite beautiful and the story is well written and well acted. I cannot tell you anymore because i don't want to give away to much of the plot but i strongly recommend that you get the subtitles version and not the dubbed.

Now in honor of the new Runaways movies I'm going to recommend 4 music documentaries.
first off is Edgeplay a documentary about the Runaways with interviews with all the members except Joan Jett, i will admit i was a little disappointed by this, but it is still a compelling story about what they had to give up to follow their dreams.

the 2nd is called The Gits, about a rising punk band out of Seattle who when they are about to make it big tragedy strikes, It is poignant and brought me to tears many times and Milla's voice still echoes in my brain.

the 3rd is Joni Mitchell;Woman of Heart & Mind. i have always been a fan of Joni's & this is by far the best documentary of ever saw on her. There are interviews from her and many people through out her life. It dwells deeper into her life and soul then any other things I;ve read or seen about her, If you are a Joni Mitchell fan, I highly recommend this movie.

Now last but not least is Girl's Rock, about a rock camp in Portland Oregon, that teaches girls to play instruments, be individuals and to be strong. Great movie to show your young girls.
